Special Issue on Digital Humanities and Artificial Intelligence - Deadline April 2025
The journal Umanistica Digitale (UD), published by the Associazione Informatica Umanistica e Culture Digitali (AIUCD), is pleased to announce a special issue dedicated to the intersection of Digital Humanities and Artificial Intelligence, organized in conjunction with the 21st Conference on Information and Research Science Connecting to Digital and Library Science (IRCDL 2025). This special issue will focus on innovative applications within digital libraries and cultural heritage. Submissions are invited for publication in late 2025, with a submission deadline of April 15, 2025.
This special issue seeks to explore cutting-edge research that demonstrates how artificial intelligence, digital archives, and computational methods are reshaping humanities scholarship. Contributions may focus on, but are not limited to, the following topics:
- Application of artificial intelligence techniques to research data and digital libraries
- Document analysis (including layout, text, and images)
- Services for digital arts and humanities
- Cultural heritage access and analysis
- Management of metadata (definition, curation, integration)
- Digital manuscript analysis using computational methods
- Data repositories and archives in the humanities
- Data and information lifecycle (creation, storage, sharing, reuse)
- Digital epigraphy and inscription studies using digital tools
- Digital preservation and curation of cultural artefacts
- Assessment of quality and evaluation frameworks for digital libraries
- Innovations in Digital Scholarship and research practices
Types of Contributions:
- Articles (5,000-10,000 words): Original research articles exploring theoretical, methodological, or experimental work, supported by comprehensive bibliographies. These articles will undergo peer review.
- Reviews and Reports (1,000-3,500 words): Critical reviews of books, tools, projects, datasets, or reports on relevant events, evaluated by the Editorial Board.
