Author Guidelines

Full articles

All submissions (about 5.000-10.000 words, bibliography excluded) should be written in English or Italian. The manuscript must be submitted electronically and formatted according to these author guidelines. All papers must include an abstract in English and Italian (around 200 words each), and at least five keywords in both languages.

Only footnotes are allowed, so papers employing endnotes will be rejected.

Pictures and tables must always be provided with captions. No groups of items are allowed; each item must have its caption.

We ask that you submit your paper either in LibreOffice .ODT or Word .docx, following the formatting rules of these templates

Bibliographic references. Umanistica Digitale adopted the rules outlined in the Chicago Manual of Style for bibliographic references, specifically the Chicago author-date 17th edition format.

Authors are strongly recommended to use Zotero reference manager to format their bibliographies according to the journal's preferred style, selecting the following Zotero style (CLS)

Authors are encouraged always to provide DOIs, where available. UD also has a public Zotero group library: https://www.zotero.org/groups/1624882/umanistica_digitale

Remember to insert footnote pointers after punctuation, and to spell out abbreviations the first time they are mentioned.

Non-native speakers of English or Italian, the two official languages of Umanistica Digitale, are asked to have a native speaker proofread their contribution(s) before submitting to the journal. Our editors are only responsible for minor edits; should they feel that the language of the contribution(s) is below standard, authors will be asked to revise and resubmit.

Reviews and reports

Umanistica Digitale seeks to provide its readers with reviews of relevant books, projects, tool datasets, events, and project progress reports to raise awareness of community activities being carried out in Italy and internationally.

Reviews of books, projects available online, tools and datasets (hereafter resources) must address the following: goal (purpose, motivation and audience), coAudiencelated research (background literature), research questions (where applicable), method (where applicable), results (where applicable), discussion, conclusions and suggestions for improvement or criticism.

A review or report is between 1,000 and 3,500 words (bibliography excluded), and contributions to the journal are published on a rolling basis, meaning that your review would be published shortly after submission and pending editorial approval. Please note that a book or other resource published in English does not necessarily have to be reviewed in English - it can be reviewed in Italian. The time allocated to complete the review is four months. We ask you to follow the guidelines above (odt/docx).
